Proverbs 1:28-31 – “Then they will call upon Me, but I will not answer;” they will seek Me diligently but will not find Me.  29Because they hated knowledge (v. 22) and did not choose the fear of the Lord30would have none of My counsel and despised all My reproof, 31 therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way, and have their fill of their own devices.”

At the root of all prideful disobedience against the experiential knowledge of the Truth is  the choice not to have a reverential fear of the Lord. Those who make this choice will hate the knowledge of the Truth. They will despise the wisdom and the instruction which this knowledge provides. Thus, turning a deaf ear to the only source for real help that would give them the needed guidance to move forward, they are like a ship gone adrift, driven by the wind along an undefined course, crying out for wisdom’s help while wallowing in the mire of the consequences of their own decisions.

But for those who choose to have a reverential fear of the Lord, their choice is the beginning of a love relationship with the knowledge of the Truth (Prov. 1:7). This makes possible the hearing of faith so that we can hear Wisdom’s call to heed her counsel.

Proverbs 1:32-33 – “For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them; 33BUT WHOEVER LISTENS TO ME WILL DWELL SECURE AND WILL BE AT EASE, WITHOUT DREAD OF DISASTER.”
